Site visit to ESS and MAX IV
Date and time: Monday 26 February, 2018, 11.00, 12.00 and 13.00 and Thursday 1 March 2018, 09.00 and 10.00
Place: ESS (Odarslövsvägen 113) and MAX IV (Fotongatan 2) in Lund, Sweden
About the site visit: Participants are offered a combined site visit to The European Spallation Source – ESS (one of the BSBF2018 organising Big Science organisations) and MAX IV (one of the affiliated Big Science organisations) in Lund, Sweden. Busses will depart from Tivoli Hotel & Congress Center, Copenhagen, every hour from 11.00 to 13.00 on 26 February 2018 and at 09.00 and 10.00 on 1 March 2018. The combined site visit takes approx. 4 hours including bus transport from Copenhagen to Lund and back. Participants will have a guided bus tour of the ESS construction site and a guided walking tour inside the MAX IV building.
Registration: Register in your personal BSBF2018 registration (log in using your BSBF2018 reference number sent to you in the BSBF2018 confirmation email). Click ‘Modify registration’ and select your preferred time slot under the ‘Options’ menu and confirm your selection. Registration is required no later than Sunday, 18 February 2018.
Conditions and tickets:
- Time slots will be given on a first come-first serve basis – maximum 50 participants per bus
- Signups will recieve a personal and time slot specific “site visit ticket” one week before BSBF2018
- Site visits are offered free-of-charge to BSBF2018 participants – no-show fee of EUR 50
- Cancellation is possible before 18 February 2018 (log into the BSFB2018 registration module using your reference number; go to ‘Options’ menu and ‘Clear selection’)
- BSBF2018 or the hosting organisations cannot be made responsible for any possible delays. We recommend you to make your personal travel arrangements accordingly – especially if you travel on 26 February and/or 1 March
- If winter weather creates unsafe driving conditions for bus tours entering the ESS construction site, an alternative visit option may be offered for safety reasons.
About the facilities: ESS is a partnership of European nations committed to collectively building and operating a multi-disciplinary research facility based on the world’s most powerful neutron source. The facility is under construction in Lund, Sweden, while the ESS Data Management and Software Centre (DMSC) is located in Copenhagen, Denmark. MAX IV is the Swedish national synchrotron laboratory located in Lund. The facility provides the highest quality of X-rays available to scientists from academia and industry and was inaugurated in June 2016.
